PAYMENT PROCESS – WHEN AND WHAT YOU PAY FOR
With CFR, you know exactly which payments are due and when.
1. Purchase Price in the USA
The purchase price is typically paid directly to the seller in the USA – including any costs for processing and domestic transport to the port, unless CFR arranges pickup from the seller on your behalf.
2. Ocean Freight
Ocean freight from the USA to Europe can be paid either before shipping (prepaid) or upon arrival in Europe (collect).
When booking through CFR, payment is typically handled as collect – meaning the invoice is payable to us once the vehicle arrives at the port.
3. Port, Unloading, and Customs Fees
Upon arrival in Bremerhaven or another European port, fees apply for unloading, port handling, and customs clearance.
These costs are paid directly to CFR as the shipping agent.
The vehicle is released once payment has been received or paid in cash on-site.
4. Domestic Transport in Germany
If CFR arranges onward transport to your place of residence, these costs are usually already included in the final invoice.
If you arrange the transport yourself, payment is made directly to the carrier, typically upon delivery.
5. Technical Modifications and Conversions
Depending on the vehicle, technical modifications or conversions (e.g., TÜV, lighting, homologation) may be required after arrival in Germany.
These are billed directly by the shop based on the work performed.

Determine which region or port the vehicle will be exported from – common departure points include Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, or New York.
3. Doing It Yourself or Using a Service Provider
Consider which tasks you’d like to handle yourself and where you’d rather rely on experienced professionals – for example, with payment, transport arrangements, or customs clearance.
4. Language Support

5. Purchase and Payment
Once you’ve found the vehicle, payment is made to the seller or a processing service provider.

6. Ocean Transport
Transport is carried out either via consolidated container or roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) shipping.
CFR takes care of freight documents, shipping, insurance, and transport logistics.
7. Arrival in Europe
Upon arrival, you’ll receive the shipping invoice, including all fees.
Upon request, we also handle customs clearance.
8. Pickup or Doorstep Delivery
You can pick up your vehicle in person from us, or arrange onward transport all the way to your doorstep – convenient, safe, and reliable.
